What if we appreciated our bodies for the places they lead us to, the connections they help us make, and the adventures they take us on? What if the way our bodies look is the least important part of who we are?
"A Cultured Diet" is an artist's exploration of diet culture and the value we place on our bodies.
Hosted at Quest Art School & Gallery in Midland, Ontario, the exhibition will run from Friday, January 19 to March 2, 2024. Opening reception will take place on January 19 from 7pm to 9pm, alongside the opening of our complementary members’ exhibition, “What’s On Your Plate?” Anyone in the community is welcome to attend both openings, and refreshments will be served.
“A Cultured Diet” invites visitors to immerse themselves in a diverse collection of works that challenge societal norms on both the subtle and obvious aspects of our relationships with our bodies.
Through various mediums such as sculpture, painting, and illustration, Archer’s exhibition aims to provoke conversations around the impact of diet culture on mental and physical well-being, the portrayal of body image in mainstream media, and the complexities of maintaining a healthy relationship with food and exercise.
In addition to the exhibition, an Artist Talk and Expert Panel will take place on Friday, February 22 at 7pm. This event will dive deeper into the inspiration for the show and explore the impact of diet culture, disordered eating, and the power of re-examining our relationships with our bodies. We have three incredible experts confirmed, and the fourth panelist will be announced shortly.
