Lighthouses have long been used in literature and cinema to symbolize strength, safety, individuality, and even death. Because lighthouses are constructed to withstand powerful storms and turbulent ocean waters, it is no wonder why they are frequently depicted as symbols of strength. Constructed on the top of hills or cliffs, they have a resilient nature. They represent hope and safe haven when a ship first sees the glimmering light atop a lighthouse in the distance.
A lighthouse can symbolize various things, such as overcoming challenges and adversity or guidance. It is most commonly used to symbolize a way forward and help in navigating through the world.
What does a lighthouse represent to you?
We thank the students at St. Theresa's Catholic High School and their teacher, Ms. Atkinson, for their wonderful contributions to this ongoing project!
