Gel Plate Monoprints: creating textures & shapes with Kim-Lee Kho

Making Great Textures and Shapes

Gel plates (aka gelli plates) are a fun and responsive way to make monotype prints that stand alone as artworks or can serve as a base layer for mixed media, could be collaged onto objects or applied to cards etc. Using an imaginative eye to look around the house, in your recycling bin and maybe even purchase a few inexpensive items, you can make fantastic prints of textures and shapes, compose with them, layer them up, and have a lot of fun in the process.

A gel (or gelli) plate is needed as the alternatives will not produce nearly as good a result. A soft rubber printmaking brayer is strongly recommended.

Material list will be provided.

When: April 7th, 2021, 1:30-4:30pm on Zoom

Cost: $30 for Members; $40 for Non-Members

About The Artist
Kim-Lee Kho is a Brampton-based multidisciplinary artist and designer, who loves exploring and expanding the possibilities of media, materials and processes. The bi-ethnic daughter of a scientist and an artist, Kho’s process and interests combine both influences, in sometimes unexpected ways. A member of The Red Head Gallery collective in downtown Toronto, she’s participated nationally in exhibitions, residencies, and mentorships; and won a number of awards including grants from the Ontario Arts Council. Kho is a popular and experienced art educator, speaker, and juror, who offers free weekly Virtual Studio Parties on YouTube, and teaches online.
