School may be out, but creativity is definitely in at Quest! This holiday break, kids can jump into four days of art-making fun during our Winter Camp!

From drawing and painting to playful mixed-media projects, campers will experiment, create, and head home each day with artwork they’ll be proud of. Along the way, they’ll make new friends, build confidence, and enjoy a warm, supportive studio space during the chilliest time of year.

There’s just a short time left to be part of a landmark exhibition at Quest. We’re seeking proposals for our upcoming Tri-Cultural Exhibition, a powerful exploration of Midland’s living heritage, told through three large-scale 2D works that represent Indigenous, French, and English perspectives.

From the Huron-Wendat and Anishinaabek peoples to French settlers and English builders, these interconnected histories continue to shape who we are today. Now, we’re inviting artists to interpret these stories through their own contemporary lens, honouring the past while illuminating its influence on the present.

It’s only Wednesday, but it’s already been a full week at Quest!

In addition to our Giving Tuesday campaign, which wrapped up last night, we were also pleased to welcome our dedicated volunteers for a festive Potluck to celebrate everything they’ve helped make possible this year. It was a wonderful night of gratitude, good food, and great company, capped off with a unique honey-tasting experience led by Board Member Kelly. Kelly led the group through a mini-lesson in honey-making, including a blind tasting, which was truly the sweetest way to say thank you.

To every volunteer who gives their time, skills, and heart to Quest, we appreciate you more than words can say. Our programs and the people we serve get to experience the best of Quest because of you!

On behalf of all of us here at Quest, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!   While we didn’t quite reach our $10,000 Giving Tuesday goal, we’re incredibly grateful for every contribution made toward Creative Minds, Confident Futures.

Studies on creativity in schools show that participating in creative activities can strengthen behaviour, self-confidence, emotional regulation, relationships, sense of belonging, and resilience in young people.   Here in Simcoe County, we also know that many youth are struggling and need more ways to support their well-being day to day. Community arts spaces like Quest give teens a practical, accessible way to check in with themselves, express big feelings, and build skills that support their mental health over time.

With your support, we can offer more spaces where young people can explore ideas, experiment freely, learn from “mistakes,” and discover who they’re becoming.

Across Canada, research shows that people who take part in arts and cultural activities are more likely to report very good or excellent mental health and higher life satisfaction than those who don’t. Close to home, 43% of Simcoe Muskoka youth do not describe their mental health as excellent or very good; a reminder of how urgently our community needs accessible, creative outlets.

That’s the power of spaces like Quest. When youth have regular opportunities to draw, paint, sculpt, and experiment, they’re practising problem-solving, focus, and resilience; skills that support their overall wellbeing. Our Youth Committee is advocating for more of these creativity-building opportunities for local teens, and it’s our hope that this campaign will help make that possible.

Around the world, we’re learning what young people already know: creativity changes how you feel about yourself. In a recent North American survey, 92% of kids aged 6–12 said being creative makes them feel more confident.

Participants in our Adult Painting Class had a fantastic session with Instructor @erikalacroixart, who guided the group through the bold and expressive art of palette knife painting.

With sweeping strokes and layered details, everyone embraced the challenge, and the results were stunning.

Our Children’s Mixed Media artists have been busy creating the sweetest little creatures, and we can’t get enough!

What does water mean to you? How do you engage with Georgian Bay? This is your opportunity to reflect (in every sense of the word) on your relationship with water as a vital life source. Members are encouraged to explore how their chosen medium can evoke the movement, mood, and meaning of water, or examine the environmental impact of their materials upon it.

Last night’s Annual General Meeting was a reminder of what makes Quest so special: people who believe in the power of art to connect and inspire.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to reflect on the year’s accomplishments, share ideas for the future, and continue shaping the creative heart of our community. We’re so grateful for your presence, passion, and ongoing support.

A BIG Quest thank you to all of the ghoulies and ghosties who stopped by during Saturday’s Mini Monster March to take part in our ghost lollypop craft. We had over 200 participants and couldn’t have done it without our superhero, Anne-Marie Denis.

One of our favourite parts of our Children’s Programming? Watching every young artist bring their own imagination to life. No two projects ever turn out the same, and that’s exactly what we love about it!
